Spring

In the absence of a repressive regime
the spirited new birds
spring from the tree as growth rises like a breath
beneath them. Suddenly, greenery
appears along the way as a child lifts his eyes
and begins calling. Reaching
beyond the dusty world of a crib wall, a rattle shakes
staggering in its simplicity. Prayers and answers
as aspirants shine,
climbing each old step with new feet.
Everything matters and nothing
floats away.
